Whether from a mountain peak, a tower, or a hot-air balloon—many people sought out a special spot in the evening to watch the partial solar eclipse. According to a dpa reporter, around 100 people gathered on the Brocken in the Harz Mountains. They were well-equipped with special glasses for the celestial spectacle; some even brought telescopes.
Observers also gathered at the approximately 50-meter-high Ernemann Tower in Dresden to witness the moon passing in front of the setting sun. Visibility was mostly good thanks to calm summer weather without any thick clouds. At least six hot-air balloons were also floating above Dresden—and their passengers, of course, had the best view as well.
Partial solar eclipses do occur from time to time. This time, however, the celestial spectacle was considered special because it coincided with sunset. Observatories offered special programs and opportunities to observe the event.
