People in Saxony have to pay less for utilities. But what about rents?

Dropping prices for electricity, gas and heating oil have somewhat weakened inflation in Saxony. The provisional inflation rate in July was 2.1 percent, according to the State Statistical Office in Kamenz. In June, the annual inflation rate was still at 2.4 percent.

Compared to the same month last year, prices for electricity, gas and heating oil fell by six to almost nine percent, according to the statisticians. This compensated for the fact that net rents increased by 2.5 percent in the same period.

The increase in prices for household appliances and furniture, leisure, entertainment, culture and transport was relatively low. However, people in Saxony had to pay significantly more for services in daycare centers or social institutions.

Price reductions for school bags

Compared to the previous month of June 2025, significant price reductions were recorded for shoes and clothing in July. School bags and pens were also significantly cheaper for parents of school-age children during the summer vacations. Package holidays, on the other hand, were more expensive.
