Saxony would like to further expand its economic relations with Taiwan. Wirtschaftsförderung Sachsen GmbH (WFS) has agreed to cooperate with the Taiwan Chamber of Commerce Abroad (AHK). In future, the AHK will support local projects and establish contacts between companies as a representative of WFS, as announced by Saxony Economic Development Corporation. Taiwan has become noticeably more important for Saxony in recent years, explained Saxony's Minister of Economic Affairs Dirk Pante. "Taiwan is a key economic partner for Saxony and a global leader in central industries of the future - especially semiconductors, electronics and precision manufacturing," said the SPD politician. This ties in directly with Saxony's strengths in microelectronics, automotive and mechanical engineering. The closer cooperation with the AHK Taiwan should help to further expand Saxony's presence on the island. "We are delighted to have gained an experienced and established partner in AHK Taiwan for the further development of the Taiwanese market and the expansion of cooperation with Taiwan," explained WFS Managing Director Thomas Horn. It is hoped that this will lead to "more effective support for Saxon companies on site and more targeted acquisition of potential investors". According to the WFS, the tasks of the local partners include providing information on export opportunities and cooperation possibilities, contacts between companies from Taiwan and Saxony as well as organizing delegations and specialist events. The importance of Taiwan for Saxony's foreign trade has recently increased. In the third quarter of 2025, the export volume amounted to 1.37 billion euros - an increase of 20 percent compared to the previous year. The most important export goods are electrical engineering products, followed by automotive products and chemical precursors. Imports from Taiwan also increased, rising by 35%. The most important imported goods are also electrical engineering products, as well as bicycles and mechanical engineering products. Copyright 2026, dpa (www.dpa.de).
