After the rampage in Leipzig's city center, an injured patient is still being treated at Leipzig University Hospital. "He is doing well, according to the circumstances," said the Medical Director of the hospital, Christoph Josten. Whether an operation is necessary "will be decided in the next few days".
Quick processes in the emergency department
The hospital reacted immediately after becoming aware of the crime. "We have well-established processes where an information chain is then set in motion," said Josten. Employees knew exactly where they were needed. In the central emergency department, teams of nurses, surgeons and anaesthetists were formed. "That was set up perfectly."
It is often impossible to estimate how many injured people to expect at the beginning. "The damage situation cannot be determined within five minutes," said Josten. That's why the control centre decides on the distribution of patients depending on the severity of the injuries.
