This year's design prize was awarded in Leipzig, where 15 works were honored.

This year's design prize was awarded in Leipzig on Monday evening. A total of 15 works were honored, the Ministry of Economic Affairs announced on Monday in Dresden. With a total of 263 submissions, a record number of entries were received this year, it said. A jury selected 36 nominees for the prizes, which are endowed with a total of 80,000 euros. The prize is reportedly awarded every two years. It is therefore one of the most highly endowed design prizes in Germany.

"The award-winning works impressively demonstrate the power and facets of design that go far beyond mere shaping," said Minister of Economic Affairs Martin Dulig according to the press release. According to the SPD politician, design has the potential to show intelligent solutions for how we can live, work, do business, produce and consume more sustainably together. The design achievements of all nominees and the award winners will be presented to the public at various locations next year.
