Speed Checks Near Schools: More Than 1,800 Drivers Caught Speeding

During speed checks near elementary schools at the start of the school year, police recorded more than 1,800 drivers who were speeding. Fines were issued in 1,550 cases, the Ministry of the Interior reported. In addition, there were 257 more serious violations, for which the drivers are expected to pay fines.

Officers also identified 132 cases in which children in cars were not properly secured. In addition, 493 other traffic violations, such as parking violations or cell phone use while driving, were recorded.

The road safety campaign “School’s Back in Session!” took place from August 17 to September 6. The police set up 1,093 checkpoints near elementary schools for this purpose.
