Working in nature with visible success at the end of the day - the forestry profession is booming. But the coveted training places are limited.

More and more young people in Saxony are interested in a career in the forest. "Fortunately, interest in the "green professions" has risen sharply in recent years and remains very high," said the state enterprise Sachsenforst on request. Sachsenforst currently receives around five applications per training place.

In order to meet this trend, training capacities have been gradually increased from 32 to 48 places since 2017. In addition, the forestry training center in Bad Reiboldsgrün in Auerbach, Vogtland, was opened in 2023. It offers modern training and accommodation facilities for trainees and is also intended to increase the attractiveness of Saxony as a training location.

There are currently 410 trained foresters working for the state-owned company, while a further 139 are in training. Sachsenforst attributes the continued high level of interest to the versatility of the profession and the workplace in nature, among other things. In addition, many trainees appreciate seeing the visible results of their work at the end of the day.
