The train operator of a fully occupied ICE train missed the stop in Fulda while traveling from Frankfurt/Main to Berlin. A conductor announced that she hadn’t been able to inform the train driver in time that he was supposed to stop there, reported a dpa reporter who was traveling on the train. Instead, the ICE 596 stopped in Hünfeld, a small town in eastern Hesse about 18 kilometers away. All passengers heading to Fulda had to get off there on Sunday afternoon and take a regional train back. Because the long-distance train was too long for the platform there, the doors of the first-class cars were not opened in Hünfeld. The train was scheduled to depart Frankfurt at 4:15 p.m.—and then travel via Fulda, Eisenach, Erfurt, Leipzig, and Wittenberg to Berlin. However, it departed from Frankfurt later than scheduled because several cars were overcrowded, and the train crew asked passengers to spread out into the front cars. The train finally departed about 15 minutes late. Copyright 2026, dpa (www.dpa.de). All rights reserved
