Leipzig/Halle and Dresden Airports record rising passenger numbers in the first quarter

Leipzig/Halle and Dresden Airports recorded an increase in passenger numbers in the first quarter, according to Mitteldeutsche Flughafen AG.

Leipzig/Halle and Dresden Airports registered a further increase in passenger numbers in the first three months of the year. The two airports recorded a total of 477,399 passengers, 15.2 percent more than in the previous year, as Mitteldeutsche Flughafen AG announced on Wednesday. The number of take-offs and landings, on the other hand, was five percent below the previous year's level at 21,556.

Around a quarter more passengers were counted at Leipzig Airport than in the previous year. The number of passengers rose by 23.6 percent to 331,793 in the first quarter, with a particularly high volume of passengers in March. Around two thirds of all passengers were accounted for by tourist flights. Cargo volume at the airport from January to March was around 351,272 tons, one per cent above the previous year's figure.

Dresden Airport handled 145,606 passengers in the year to March, roughly the same number as in the previous year. However, the number of passengers increased slightly in March. The number of take-offs and landings rose by 2.2 percent to 3985, according to the figures.
