In the coming week, the police will be stepping up speed checks on the roads. Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia are also taking part in the Europe-wide campaign week, according to the ADAC.
But what does this mean for drivers? And what are the penalties for violations? An overview:
What happens during "Speedweek"?
With the so-called "Speedweek", the police are primarily targeting speeders. The control week runs from April 13 to 19. During this period, there will be increased speed checks.
According to the ADAC, there will be significantly more checks, especially on accident-prone stretches of road and in areas where there is a particular risk. These include schools, construction sites, kindergartens, retirement homes and hospitals. This affects freeways and main roads as well as roads in urban areas.
