The city of Leipzig wants to examine the access point where the rampage through a busy shopping street in the city center began. City spokesman Matthias Hasberg told the German Press Agency. The 33-year-old suspect's car was stopped by bollards at the western end of the busy pedestrian zone on Monday.
At the eastern entrance to Grimmaische Straße, the 33-year-old had apparently been able to enter the pedestrian zone unhindered via Augustusplatz. There are no bollards at this point.
The city now wants to review the security precautions at the entrance and "put the entire city center security concept to the test once again," said spokesperson Hasberg. The suspect is a German from Leipzig.
