Alstom stops production - Heiterblick crisis intensifies

Leipzig streetcar builder Heiterblick is coming under further pressure. After a production stop at the supplier Alstom, delays in the XXL project are looming.

The economic crisis at Leipzig-based streetcar manufacturer Heiterblick continues to escalate. After the company was officially transferred to insolvency proceedings under self-administration at the beginning of July, the central supplier Alstom has stopped the production of car bodies. "The production of car bodies has been stopped because Heiterblick is not fulfilling key elements of the contract," Alstom announced. The "Sächsische Zeitung" and the "Leipziger Volkszeitung" had previously reported on this.

Alstom also stated: "According to the contract, Alstom is supplying the car bodies for 25 streetcars for the city of Leipzig." Three car bodies have been handed over to Heiterblick so far. The company did not specify which parts of the contract are affected.

Hope for cooperation despite crisis mode

Heiterblick confirmed that contract talks with Alstom are ongoing, but would not comment publicly. The Leipziger Verkehrsbetriebe (LVB), which is involved with Heiterblick in a major project to supply new XXL streetcars, was cautious. The LVB is involved in the process and is working with the city and state to ensure that it continues. Free state wants to support the industry

The Saxon Ministry of Economic Affairs confirmed that Alstom had stopped delivery for the time being, but had not terminated it permanently. "The insolvency application offers the company a wide range of opportunities for comprehensive consolidation and realignment," the ministry said. Heiterblick is being supported by the Consolidation Advisory Center of the Sächsische Aufbaubank.

The ministry is in close contact with the company and has been "actively supporting the search for a new financial future and ownership structure for months". From an industrial policy perspective, the Free State has a strong interest in preserving the Saxon streetcar construction industry.

Heiterblick filed for insolvency under self-administration in April. Leipzig District Court officially opened the proceedings at the beginning of July.
