Last year, two million euros in funding was approved by the state of Saxony for animal welfare. However, the money was not available until the end of 2025.

The state of Saxony approved a total of two million euros for animal welfare last year. According to the Saxony State Directorate, the funding of 1.32 million euros was increased by almost 700,000 euros for the years 2025 and 2026. The funds will primarily go to animal welfare associations and animal shelters.

In 2025, 116 associations and shelters could be supported. Due to an adjustment to the funding guidelines, the money could only be made available in mid-November 2025. The money is used to pay for operations, staff, veterinary fees and feed, among other things. Despite government funding, donations are still essential for animal welfare organizations.
