Leipzig Zoo: Red panda twins are named “Maya” and “Tashi”
Three and a half months after their birth, the two red pandas at the Leipzig Zoo have been named. The siblings are named “Maya” and “Tashi,” which mean “magic” and “luck,” according to the zoo. From more than 3,000 suggestions, the zookeepers selected five pairs of names that made the shortlist. 13,000 people then cast their votes. On June 3, the female Nepalese red panda “Kamala” gave birth to two cubs. According to the zoo, the cubs are developing well and becoming increasingly active. After spending their first weeks of life sheltered in a den, the two are now beginning to explore their habitat more independently. They are climbing trees, becoming increasingly confident in their surroundings, and are now being spotted more and more often by visitors. Copyright 2026, dpa (www.dpa.de). All rights reserved
