There is a new wolf territory in the district of Leipzig. According to the Saxon State Office for the Environment, Agriculture and Geology (LfULG), the genetics of a stray pup have provided evidence of a new pack.
Residents had picked up the helpless and apparently lost wolf pup on the outskirts of the Lossatal municipality more than a week ago. The results of the samples sent in provided the information that the pup could not be assigned to any previously known parent, as was further reported. In addition, intensive monitoring on site confirmed the presence of a male wolf and a female wolf.
The pup was nursed back to health and has since been released back into the wild. The successful reunion with the parent animals was observed with the help of a wildlife camera. The researchers also discovered two other pups in the process.
