Brown trout in the rivers of the Ore Mountains are expected to fare better again. Researchers from Saxony and the Czech Republic are now planning to study the populations of these salmonids and their habitat as part of a joint project, according to the Saxon State Foundation for Nature and the Environment. The goal is to assess the condition of the fish and identify any parasites. The study will be conducted at a total of 80 sites in waterways on both sides of the border.
After being examined, the fish are released back into the water
Other partners in the project include the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice, the Technical University of Dresden, and the State Foundation for Nature and the Environment. The study will use scientific methods to assess fish populations. Each individual caught is identified, measured, and weighed. It is then released back into the water. A random sample of brown trout is examined for parasites.
