FC Erzgebirge Aue suffered their next defeat in the relegation battle in the 3rd soccer league and now have little chance of staying up. The Saxons lost 2:1 (1:0) at SV Waldhof Mannheim and must continue to wait for their first win since December. Marvin Stefaniak (44th minute) had put the visitors ahead and given the Aue fans hope again. Lovis Bierschenk (50th) and Terrence Boyd (90th) turned the game in Mannheim's favour. It was not clear from the TV footage whether the ball was completely behind the goal line when the winning goal was scored. There is no video evidence in the 3rd division. The gap to a non-relegation place could grow to over ten points after this matchday. Eight games remain until the end of the season. A drop into the Regionalliga can hardly be averted. The board knew this before kick-off, having recently informed its employees about the future path until summer 2027 in light of the dramatic situation. "The established structures and professional infrastructure should largely be retained despite necessary restrictions and cost-cutting measures. The aim is to set up a budget close to ten million euros and attack again immediately," it said in a club statement, Copyright 2026, dpa (www.dpa.de).
