Bundesliga club 1. FC Union Berlin stumbled in its next preseason friendly. Dynamo Dresden, on the other hand, had a successful dress rehearsal ahead of the start of the second division season. The Saxons prevailed 2-1 (1-1) in front of 25,022 spectators at Rudolf-Harbig-Stadion. For Union, it was their fifth consecutive friendly without a win.
After Union took the lead through Tom Rothe (19th minute), Niklas Hauptmann (22nd) and Vincent Vermeij (52nd) turned the game around in favor of the home team.
For Dresden, this marked the official season opener ahead of their second-division debut on August 9 (1:30 p.m.) against 1. FC Nürnberg. Union still has three weeks of preparation time remaining before their first competitive match on August 23 in the DFB Cup against Eintracht Braunschweig.
