The volleyball players of VfB Suhl Lotto Thüringen surprisingly won the first game of the play-off final series for the German championship against Dresdner SC 3:0 (25:22, 25:22, 25:16). The cup winners thus defended their home court advantage in the "best of five" series and can fight for their first match point in the second game in Dresden on Saturday to win the championship title and thus the double.
The Supercup winners and fourth-placed team in the preliminary round from Saxony went into the first Central German final duel significantly handicapped. Head Coach Alexander Waibl was without his injured captain and regular libero Patricia Nestler and had to change his formation. For the national player, outside attacker Lorena Lorber Fijok took over as the central reception and defense player and the Japanese Miku Akimoto returned to action for the first time after a long injury break.
The visitors from Dresden had great difficulty finding their rhythm right from the start and made numerous service errors. Nevertheless, they were able to keep things close in the first two sets against the VfB women, who were usually strong in attack. In the third set, they were no longer able to withstand the pressure from the Thuringian women, who seamlessly continued their strong performance from the semi-final.
