Marcel Schäfer has described the activities of Bundesliga club RB Leipzig in the winter transfer window as sensible and economically feasible. The Saxons have signed four players in Ayodele Thomas, Suleman Sani, Brian Gruda and Abdoul Kone, although Kone will not move to Leipzig from Stade Rennes until the summer.
The departures include Timo Werner, Amadou Haydara and Kevin Kampl, deserving players who have been the face of the club for years and have played a key role in RB's steep rise and success.
"It was a very intense transfer window, different to what you might have expected after the upheaval in the summer," said RB Sport managing director Schäfer in an interview with the club.
The club reacted to injuries such as that of Assan Ouédraogo on the acquisition side. They acted immediately when they heard that Brajan Gruda was available. "We already had him on our radar during his time in Mainz. We were on fire then". Gruda was loaned out by English first division club Brighton & Hove Albion until the end of the season.
