SC DHfK Leipzig celebrates important home win

The handball players of SC DHfK Leipzig have made a statement in the Bundesliga relegation battle. After nine games without a win, the team of Head Coach Frank Carstens defeated HC Erlangen 30:29 (17:13) in front of a home crowd. Dean Bombac was the best scorer for SC DHfK in its first home win of the year in front of 4,510 spectators, scoring eight goals to move up to penultimate place with 13:47 points.

The club from Leipzig started the game with a lot of momentum, but increasingly revealed problems in defense because it was too passive against Erlangen's backcourt shooters. As a result, the visitors took a two-goal lead midway through the first half (11:9). However, goalkeeper Tomas Mrkva then stepped up his game considerably and Leipzig now also found its grip in defense. With a 6:1 run, they turned the deficit into a 15:12 lead (25th minute).

Leipzig's nerves fluttered in the final spell

After a good start to the second half, they extended their lead to 21:15 (39'). The home side looked like the sure winners up to 27:21 (52'), before nerves began to fray in the final spell. Erlangen closed the gap to one goal with 43 seconds remaining, but Leipzig ran out the clock in the final attack.
