Rising star Yan Diomande is expected to join RB Leipzig for training and the mandatory performance tests this Monday, along with the other World Cup players. That will also be the first time new coach Martín Demichelis gets to see the Ivorian. The Argentine responded calmly to questions about the future of the Ivorian, who is being courted by many top clubs: “He has a contract here. Everything else is up to Marcel Schäfer to sort out,” Demichelis said after the 1-0 friendly win against FC Ingolstadt. This marks a shift in tone for Leipzig, who—during the presentation of Ole Werner’s successor—had previously made it clear that Diomande would be staying.
PSG is also continuing its pursuit of the rising star; according to reports, Diomande’s agents have reportedly reached a basic agreement with the Parisians on the terms of a contract running through 2031. PSG boss Nasser Al-Khelaifi has excellent ties with Red Bull managing director Oliver Mintzlaff. The two also negotiated the transfer of Xavi Simons from Paris to Leipzig for 50 million euros in January 2025. During the World Cup in the U.S., Diomande put pressure on his club, saying, “I naturally assume that I will be leaving the club.”
Last Bundesliga season, Diomande scored 12 goals and set up nine more in 33 league appearances. Leipzig will once again compete in the Champions League next season, which the club sees as a key reason for Diomande to stay—for now.
