Casual in jeans and sneakers, record Olympic champions Tobias Wendl and Tobias Arlt held up the crystal globe for the overall World Cup. But they didn't sled for it. Their victory was already decided at the penultimate stop in St. Moritz. "It's a strange feeling somehow. We drove up to the track here and thought to ourselves that we would like to race. We were already tingling," said Arlt and emphasized due to the decision not to start: "It was important and right that we support the juniors and young talents here and that they get a World Cup appearance. That's important to us, we've already experienced that as small pens."
So the two 38-year-olds, who won their seventh gold and a bronze medal in the doubles in Cortina d'Ampezzo, were replaced by youngsters Louis Grünbeck and Maximilian Kührt (RRV Sonneberg/Schalkau/RRC Zella-Mehlis). With eleventh place directly behind the World Champions Hannes Orlamünder and Paul Gubitz (both RRC Zella-Mehlis), the result was decent.
