16 National Team Players: RB Leipzig Receives a Large Sum of Money from UEFA

An unexpected windfall for Bundesliga club RB Leipzig: The Saxony-based team will receive 353,000 euros from UEFA, the European soccer governing body. With this payment, the federation is recognizing the club for releasing 16 players to play for their national teams during the 2024–25 Nations League season, as UEFA announced. In total, the federation distributed 31.5 million euros to 611 clubs, including several amateur clubs.

RB received the largest share of this sum—which is calculated at 3,845 euros per player per game—of any club in Europe. Through this club support program, UEFA recognizes the role of all clubs in developing players and releasing them for national teams. “When soccer thrives, everyone benefits,” said UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin.
