Bundesliga club RB Leipzig has signed Yan Diomande. The 18-year-old Ivorian is moving from Spanish second division club CD Leganes to the Bundesliga and will sign a contract in Leipzig until June 30, 2030. The transfer has been the subject of speculation for days. A transfer fee of around 20 million euros is being discussed.
The man from the Ivory Coast played in the USA from 2022 to 2024 and was the top scorer in the USPL youth league. In January, he moved to Spain to join CD Leganes and made his professional debut in a match at Real Madrid on March 29. In ten games, he scored twice and provided one assist.
Schäfer praises Diamondes' abilities
"He is a left winger who has outstanding pace, is strong on the dribble, very athletic and a strong finisher. He also never gives the ball away and is very team-oriented. These qualities make him a good fit for the game we want to bring to the pitch in the coming season," said RB's managing director of sport, Marcel Schäfer. He called for the young player to be given time to develop.
Diamonde is the third new signing after Max Finkgräfe and Ezechil Banzuzi. More young players will follow, heralding the announced XXL shake-up at RB. After the worst Bundesliga season with a seventh place finish and missing out on the international starting places for the first time, RB had decided on a new beginning and a return to their former strength. As a result, several experienced players who have been key players for years will be leaving the club in the coming weeks.
