The volleyball players of VfB Suhl Lotto Thüringen have won their first championship match point in the play-off final against Dresdner SC. After the 3:0 win in the Suhl Wolfsgrube, Laszlo Hollosy's team won 3:2 (23:25, 25:11, 24:26, 25:14, 15:13) in Dresden. The cup winners are 2:0 up in the best-of-five series.
With their third win in a row, the VfB players can secure the first title in the club's history at home on Wednesday. Dresden, meanwhile, would have to win all three of their remaining matches to win their seventh title.
Captain and libero Patricia Nestler returned to the Dresden squad, but middle blocker Amanda Siksna was once again missing due to illness. In front of a sold-out crowd of 3,000, the first set was an exchange of blows at eye level.
In the second set, the hosts completely lost their rhythm after a weak start, made many mistakes and were already well behind in the third set. However, they turned this set around in their favor with a comeback. The fourth set was a mirror image of the second. The VfB ladies showed their qualities in the tie-break.
