One day after being fired by RB Leipzig, coach Ole Werner spoke out publicly with words of thanks and without any hard feelings. Addressing his former players, the 38-year-old wrote on LinkedIn: “Your professionalism and passion carried us through even the most difficult times. You are a team in the truest sense of the word! I enjoyed every moment with you—it was an honor!” Werner had to leave the Saxon Bundesliga club after just one season—even though he had led the team to the Champions League by finishing third in the standings.
The coach described it as a year “on which I look back very positively.” His mission had been to lead RB back to European competition, change the team’s approach, and establish a sustainable hierarchy in the locker room. “Many changes were made. A year later, we can say that together we managed to fulfill this mission,” summarized the native of Schleswig-Holstein. “Much of what we’ve achieved feels like a given today. A year ago, there were many who wouldn’t have believed we were capable of it. The club is back on track!”
