The Thüringer HC women's handball team ended the Bundesliga season with a win. In the match for third place, the team of coach Herbert Müller won 42:36 (19:17) at Borussia Dortmund and secured the bronze medal. Csenge Kuczora and Johanna Reichert, who had been named player of the season on Tuesday, were the THC's best scorers with seven goals. Lois Abbingh and Lisa Antl also scored seven times for BVB.
In a fast-paced encounter in which both teams did not defend with the utmost consistency, the Thuringians got off to the better start and led 7:3 after ten minutes. However, they then had increasing problems with BVB's quick transition play, with the result that the lead dwindled to 11:10 (17th minute). After a timeout by Müller, the THC took control of the game again and extended its lead to 21:15 (28'), before losing concentration and allowing Dortmund to close the gap to two goals again by the break.
After the break, the visitors impressed with their variable attacking play and pulled 26:20 (38') ahead. Although Dortmund fought back against the threat of defeat and reduced the deficit to 30:32 (49'), the THC did not allow itself to be rattled at any time and ran out deserved winners in the end.
