The ThSV Eisenach handball team secured a draw on the ninth matchday of the Bundesliga with a strong, tenacious performance. Coach Sebastian Hinze’s team held off VfL Gummersbach for a 28:28 (14:15) tie. In front of 2,762 spectators, Peter Walz led Eisenach in scoring with six goals; the team now stands at 6:12 points. Eisenach’s offense was far too static early on, and they quickly fell behind 2:6 (11th minute). However, the hosts subsequently fought their way back into the game and, thanks to strong defensive plays, gained more and more confidence on offense as well. Shortly after halftime, Eisenach took a 17:16 lead. The visitors, however, fought back vehemently. This set the stage for a nail-biter in the closing minutes. Thanks to Alex Dujshebaev’s individual brilliance, the VfL held a narrow lead for most of the time, but with their final attack, Eisenach tied the game with 11 seconds left through Stephan Seitz. In the remaining time, Gummersbach earned a free throw, which national team player Miro Schluroff converted from a sharp angle. However, the referees did not count the goal because the scorer had briefly left the ground with both feet while taking the shot. Copyright 2026, dpa (www.dpa.de). All rights reservedReferees step in
