After the clear defeat in Würzburg, the Syntainics MBC can secure their place in the German Basketball League ahead of time on Saturday. The team of Head Coach Predrag Krunic needs a win against Ludwigsburg on Saturday afternoon (3.30 p.m./Dyn) to do so, followed by a defeat of third-last Heidelberg against Ulm in the evening. The MBC would then have a two-win lead over Heidelberg with two matchdays to go before the end of the season and would also prevail in the direct comparison. A defeat by penultimate-placed Crailsheim against Bamberg would also be enough for the MBC to win.
In Würzburg, the MBC kept pace for one half and even led 48:45 shortly before the break. The club from Weißenfels collapsed in the third quarter and the final score was 83:107. Charles Callison's eleven points and ten assists at his old place of work were not enough for the MBC. It was the first double-double by Weißenfels' best player this season.
"We didn't play well in the second half, especially in defense. Würzburg is a strong team with a good rhythm. They hit a lot of shots today and it was difficult to get back into the game after falling behind," said Krunic. They are now focusing on the last three games.
