The VfB Suhl women's volleyball team have pulled off a sensation. Coach Laszlo Hollosy's team also won their third play-off final match against Dresdner SC 3:0 (25:20, 25:16, 25:22) on Wednesday evening and seized their first chance to win the title in the best-of-five series. The Thuringians thus secured the German championship title for the first time in the club's history and crowned their outstanding season with the double.
In front of more than 1,800 spectators in the sold-out Wolfsgrube, the Suhlers defeated the six-time champions from Dresden, who had already failed to beat VfB in the cup semi-finals, with a convincing performance in attack and defense. The team led by strong diagonal attacker Monika Brancuska thus remained unbeaten on home court for the 18th match in a row. Their last defeat came at the start of the season against the DSC women of all teams.
"This is a historic victory. I have no words for it. VfB Suhl are cup winners and German champions, that's incredible. I'm very proud of our team," said VfB coach Laszlo Hollosy on the Dyn microphone.
