RB Leipzig’s sporting director, Marcel Schäfer, has expressed his support for head coach Martín Demichelis. With six wins this season—matching those of FC Bayern and Borussia Dortmund—he believes his club is on the right track under the Argentine coach. “We’re a club that stands for development—on the field, off the field, and on the sidelines. If you look at the games, you can see that we’ve made progress. Our home games have been really good—we’ve set a Bundesliga record there—and we’re three points behind Dortmund and Bayern, who were previously highly, highly praised,” Schäfer said on Sport1’s “Doppelpass.” He couldn’t understand why some people believe the club is “doomed to decline here and there.” “Not everything is perfect; we know we have a lot of work to do, and we know we still have certain areas of potential that we’re tackling together. But if you’re a club that stands for development, then that should apply to everyone: the coach, the players, and everyone around them,” Schäfer emphasized, adding that he views the “development process very positively.” The Saxons celebrated their tenth home win in the Bundesliga, spanning two seasons. This marks their fifth consecutive win this season. With 23 goals, RB has tied FC Bayern’s Bundesliga record from the 2023–2024 season. “We’re a force at home,” said defensive leader Willi Orban, who has conceded only two league goals at his team’s home stadium.
