In the face of renewed speculation about a possible move to FC Bayern Munich, RB Leipzig's sporting director Max Eberl has pointed to his contract with the Cup winners. Sport Bild (Wednesday) reported that it was only a matter of time before the 50-year-old took over a key post at the German soccer record champions. A change at the transfer period at the beginning of next year is "quite possible," it said ahead of the top match between the two clubs on Saturday (6:30 p.m./Sky).
"I am under contract with RB Leipzig," Eberl told Sport Bild. "But it's not about me, it's about the top game in the Bundesliga, RB Leipzig against Bayern Munich. We have put together a really exciting squad, have started the season well, want to confirm our previous performances on Saturday against Bayern and beat them at home."
Eberl had only taken up his post in Leipzig last December after resigning from Borussia Mönchengladbach in January 2022, citing his own exhaustion as the reason. The 49-year-old had already been considered a candidate at FC Bayern several times in the past. He possesses after club data a "long-term contract" in Leipzig.
