League leaders SC Magdeburg pick up two points at Bergischer HC, but have more trouble than hoped with the Lions. Only in the final five minutes did the outstanding Felix Claar secure the away win.

SC Magdeburg has notched up another win in the German Handball League despite major difficulties. The team from the city on the Elbe won 27:25 (11:11) at Bergischer HC. Magdeburg's top scorer was Felix Claar with ten goals. Magdeburg remains unchallenged at the top of the table.

Omar Ingi Magnusson and Claar, who were last absent in the 26:34 loss in the Champions League in Paris, returned to Magdeburg's starting eleven. However, the visitors struggled and only scored in the seventh minute to make it 1:2. The SCM did not get into the game after that either and the BHC extended its lead to 7:4 (19th minute). Magdeburg only exploited mistakes by the Lions late on and went into the break with a draw.

Magdeburg strong nerves at the end

After the restart, the home side took advantage of the throw-in to go ahead, but the SCM was more alert this time and pulled three goals ahead for the first time at 16:13 in the 36th minute. However, the encounter remained tight, as the home side repeatedly found gaps and eventually turned the game around again (22:23/53). However, the league leaders had the better nerves in a hectic final phase - even though Claar initially missed the decision - and secured victory.
