The Bundesliga handball players of SC DHfK Leipzig have lived up to their role as favorites in the third round of the DHB Cup. The team of coach Runar Sigtryggsson prevailed on Tuesday evening at the second-division team VfL Lübeck-Schwartau with a commanding 33:25 (19:17). Best thrower of SC DHfK was Andri Runarsson with seven goals.
The Leipzigers overslept the opening phase and defensively lacked the necessary intensity, which the enthusiastic hosts took advantage of to take the lead with 7:5 (9th minute). Although SC DHfK countered with a 5:1 run to 10:8 (13th), they did not sustainably gain control of the game. Instead, an open exchange of blows developed until the break, in which the second division player was not inferior to the favorite in anything.
In the second half, the Leipzigers got a better grip on the game. The dynamics of the guests had to oppose the Lübeck less and less. The Leipzigers also benefited from strong saves by substitute goalkeeper Domenico Ebner. Thus, the Bundesliga team pulled away to 28:21 by the 47th minute. In the final phase, the concentration in the attack dropped somewhat, but defensively the SC DHfK stood stable, so that the success at no time came into danger.
