While the transfer market for RB Leipzig's men is still largely quiet, the women are pressing ahead with the transition with great intensity. Gina Chmielinski is the Saxons' tenth new signing. The 24-year-old midfielder returns to the Bundesliga from Italian first division club US Sassuolo and has signed a contract with Leipzig until June 30, 2027.
Chmielinski began her career at 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam, for whom she played 105 games, including many in the Bundesliga. She played for the DFB youth national teams and scored 14 goals in 35 appearances. In 2022, she moved to FC Rosengard in Sweden for one season. She then moved to SSD Napoli in Italy and from there to Sassuolo Calcio. There she was named the best midfielder of the season after scoring nine goals and providing three assists in 18 league games.
"RB Leipzig are going their own way and embody modern and bold soccer. This concept convinced me," said Chmielinski. Viola Odebrecht, Head of Women's and Girls' Football at RB, praised: "Gina Chmielinski is an experienced player with a very good overview. She knows how to move skillfully between the chains and play the final pass as well as being a goal threat herself."
