RB Leipzig has signed Andrija Maksimovic. The 18-year-old joins from Red Star Belgrade and has a contract until 2030. 14 million euros is being mooted as the transfer fee for the eight-time Serbian international; no official figures have been given.
Maksimovic is set to play a "central role" at RB Leipzig in the medium term. "We are certain that he is already ready for the next step," explained sporting director Marcel Schäfer, adding: "He is a top talent in his position and in his age group."
New signing sees "clear prospects" in Leipzig
"The club made a lot of effort to attract me and showed me clear sporting prospects, which immediately excited me," Maksimovic was quoted as saying in a club statement. The Serbian is the third attacking player to be signed by RB. However, the 18-year-old plays centrally and can also function as a playmaker. In Leipzig, the left-footer will meet his national team colleague Koste Nedeljkovic, who also previously wore the shirt of Red Star Belgrade. "He told me a lot of positive things about the club and the city - that encouraged me in my decision," said Maksimovic.
