The Argentine is starting work at RB Leipzig surprisingly early. The former Bayern player takes a look at Leipzig's training academy and reacts immediately.

Martín Demichelis began his work at RB Leipzig early this morning, Sunday, and, together with sporting director Sebastian Schuppan, visited the training academy on Cottaweg in Leipzig. He described his first impression of the training facilities as “very good, very nice,” as RB shared in a video.

The 45-year-old Argentine succeeds Ole Werner and has signed a two-year contract with RB. The former Bayern Munich pro most recently worked at RCD Mallorca in the Spanish league. Demichelis is considered the top choice of RB’s global soccer chief Jürgen Klopp, who, together with his team of advisors, played a decisive role in pushing for a change at the Red Bull flagship club. In Leipzig, he will be reunited with his former teammate Mario Gomez, who serves as technical director on Klopp’s staff. The two played together at FC Bayern (2009–2010).

“We want to win games. That involves a tactical component and a physical component. And there’s that enthusiasm, that fire, that passion. Martin embodies all of that,” said RB Leipzig’s sporting director Marcel Schäfer in an interview with “Bild.”

Demichelis will kick off preseason training with the team on July 13 with an open practice. The first friendly match under the new head coach will take place on July 18 (2:00 p.m.) at the Stadion am Bad in Markranstädt against VSG Altglienicke.
