It happened quickly: first the Dresden Lions and Julius Hudacek parted ways. Just a short time later, the professional found a new club in the German Ice Hockey League.

Goaltender Julius Hudacek joins the Fischtown Pinguins Bremerhaven shortly after his departure from the Dresdner Eislöwen. The club from the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) is thus reacting to the absence of its top goaltender Kristers Gudlevskis, who will miss months due to injury.

"After we heard about the length of Guddy's absence, we sorted out our options. In close consultation with the coaching staff, we defined a profile - Julius can help us immediately as he is in game action and knows the league," Penguins manager Sebastian Furchner said in a club statement. He added: "His presence, calmness and leadership will help us to successfully master the upcoming tasks in the 2025/26 season."

A few hours earlier, it had become known that Hudacek and promoted Dresden had agreed on a termination agreement. The 37-year-old Slovakian had only moved from the Cologne Sharks to the Saxon state capital in the summer and has since played nine games for the team currently bottom of the DEL table.
