The Niners Chemnitz Bundesliga basketball team has managed to break free from the bottom of the standings. Coach Rodrigo Pastore’s team defeated the MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg 94–78 (43–48) after a strong second half. In front of 3,858 spectators, Nighael Ceaser led the Saxons in scoring with 18 points. Thanks to their second win of the season, the team climbed out of the relegation zone and now stands at 4–10. Both teams struggled with low shooting percentages early on. However, the visitors held a clear advantage under the basket and pulled ahead 27–18 at the start of the second quarter. Center Thomas Rutherford had already racked up 13 points and nine rebounds by that point. Chemnitz subsequently picked up the pace, but were barely able to close the gap by halftime. The hosts came out of the locker room with plenty of energy and, with an 18-5 run, took a 61-53 lead (27th minute). While Ludwigsburg increasingly got bogged down in individual plays, Chemnitz now shone with strong team play and pulled away decisively to an 80–60 lead by the middle of the final quarter.
