The Niners Chemnitz basketball team let their place in the play-in rounds of the German league slip from their grasp on the final matchday of the main round. The team of Head Coach Rodrigo Pastore lost 90:104 (35:52) at Basketball Lions Braunschweig, who had already been relegated before the game, after a desolate performance over large stretches. Corey Davis was the Niners' best scorer in front of 4,198 spectators with 22 points and they ended the season in twelfth place with 32:36 points.
The club from Chemnitz got off to a sluggish start and quickly trailed by 5:16 (5th minute). Even after that, they were not able to develop the intensity that would have done justice to the importance of the game. With 16 points in the first half, the former Chemnitz player Kaza Kajami-Keane played a key role on the way to Braunschweig's 17-point lead at the break.
Chemnitz failed to respond after the break. Instead, the bottom club in the table produced a 12:2 run at the start of the third quarter to pull 64:37 ahead in the 23rd minute. The visitors only reduced the deficit in the final period - but not decisively.
