The Niners Chemnitz basketball team have defeated Alba Berlin for the first time this season. The team from Saxony came out on top in the first play-off semi-final game in the "Best of Five" series against the Albatrosses on Tuesday by 95:82 (44:32). The biggest contributors to the success were. Kevin Yebo (23), Kaza Kajami-Keane (16), Jeff Garrett, Jonas Richter (13 each) and Ousman Krubally (10). Sterling Brown (24), Johannes Thiemann (23) and Martin Hermansson (10) scored the most points for the home side. The Niners had lost the encounters against Berlin by 90:101 and 79:84 in the regular German league season.
The visitors took command midway through the second quarter. With a 16:2 run, the players of Head Coach Rodrigo Pastore turned a 28:30 deficit (16th minute) into a 44:32 lead by the break, which Chemnitz stretched to 66:50 by the 27th minute. The home side did not get any closer than 73:79 in the 37th minute. The Niners impressed with their strong defense and so had air superiority under the baskets. The visitors grabbed 39 rebounds, Berlin only 29.
