According to media reports, Bundesliga club RB Leipzig is reportedly considering a transfer of Saïd El Mala from 1. FC Köln. As “Bild,” “SportBild,” and Sky have all reported, the Cologne player’s name is said to be under discussion in Leipzig after his move to Borussia Dortmund fell through. RB is looking for an attacking player to replace Yan Diomande, who has left for Real Madrid. Fisnik Asllani of TSG Hoffenheim, who had been firmly on the club’s radar, was not signed due to health concerns. RB has not issued any statement regarding the rumor.
However, the transfer of El Mala would be very expensive for the Saxon club. Cologne had rejected BVB’s latest offer, reportedly worth 45 million plus bonuses. With such sums, Leipzig would far exceed its alleged 30-million-euro cap on player acquisitions. This would also have to be approved by the supervisory board. To date, the 50 million transfer of Xavi Simons from Paris Saint-Germain has been the Saxons’ highest transfer expenditure.
