Luger Felix Loch can still celebrate after his disappointment at the Olympics. The 36-year-old from Berchtesgaden achieved his 57th World Cup victory at the season finale in Altenberg and took his eighth overall World Cup. The Bavarian has now drawn level with Armin Zöggeler in the all-time World Cup list. The current Italian sports director has also won 57 World Cups in his successful career and continues to lead the top list of overall World Cup victories with ten wins.
After Austrian Jonas Müller withdrew from the race, Loch only had to finish to secure the crystal globe. But that was not enough for the ambitious luger. Track record in the first run, track record in the second and even broke the sound barrier with 52.998 seconds. "I really wanted to set a 52-second time here. It was an awesome race, an awesome track," said Loch and lifted the two heads shorter track champion Ralf Mende up in the air - as thanks for a perfect ice track.
