The transfer of Belgian international footballer Arthur Vermeeren from RB Leipzig is nearing completion. According to media reports, the 19-year-old is already in Leipzig undergoing medical examinations. Vermeeren is set to strengthen the defensive midfield at the Saxon Bundesliga club after Xaver Schlager will be out for at least another three months following his cruciate ligament rupture. European Championship participant Vermeeren is currently still under contract with Atlético Madrid. Since his contract is valid until June 30, 2030, a loan is primarily being discussed.
After goalkeeper Maarten Vandevoordt and Lois Openda, Vermeeren would be the third player from the Belgian national team coached by former RB coach Domenico Tedesco to join Leipzig. RB sporting director Rouven Schröder had said after the 1-0 Bundesliga opener against Bochum that a new signing must be young and be able to help in the short and medium term.
