Coach Pavel Dotchev remains optimistic that FC Erzgebirge Aue can still fight for promotion to Bundesliga 2, despite their poorer goal difference so far.

FC Erzgebirge Aue have not yet given up on promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga. Even coach Pavel Dotchev appeared visibly optimistic after the 2:1 win against SpVgg Unterhaching. "If we keep scoring now, we might still be able to knock on the door at the top. Let's see if we can pull off another surprise," said the coach on MDR. Aue are seventh and within reach of the relegation places, but have a significantly worse goal difference compared to their rivals. In front of 6480 spectators, Marvin Stefaniak (34th minute) and Steffen Meuer (46th) scored against Unterhaching, while FCE defender Steffen Nkansah (69th) reduced the deficit with an own goal.

The manner of the win against the fringe Munich side in particular cast doubt on whether the Veilchen will actually score consistently over the final four matchdays. "You could see that the team lacked mental and physical freshness," said Dotchev, citing the English week with the cup match against Oberliga side Bischofswerdaer FV (4:0) as an explanation. But what would help in general would be to finally bring consistency to the performances. A good performance was usually followed by a weaker one over the course of the season. "Maybe we've created positive stress for the last few games with this win," said Dotchev.
