Bitter Setback for RB Leipzig: Reitz Out for Several Weeks
For Rocco Reitz, his dream start with RB Leipzig is over for now. The 24-year-old midfielder suffered a muscle injury in his left thigh during training and will therefore be sidelined for several weeks. The club confirmed this after thorough examinations.
The timing of the injury is particularly bitter: Reitz had celebrated a perfect debut in a Leipzig jersey just a few days earlier. In the Bundesliga opener against his former club, Borussia Mönchengladbach, the new signing was in the starting lineup and put the finishing touch on the 3-0 victory. In the 66th minute, Reitz scored the third goal of the match—against his former club, of all teams.
For Leipzig’s new coach, Martín Demichelis, the loss is therefore a bitter setback. “That’s very disappointing. He put in a great performance,” said the Argentine. At the same time, Demichelis expressed confidence that his player will handle the injury well. Reitz is a “tough guy” and a “winner,” he said. The midfielder is expected to rejoin the team as soon as possible after the international break.
