Emil Forsberg had tears in his eyes after his magnificent final act in the RB Leipzig shirt in front of his home crowd. "The journey was incredible. I'm just very grateful. It was an honor to play here. I love this club, this city, the fans," said Forsberg after his gala performance in the 3:1 (1:1) win against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim on Saturday on TV channel Sky. Immediately afterwards, the Swedish international was officially sent off to Red Bull New York.
"Emil Forsberg, Emil Forsberg," echoed through the arena as the man with the number ten went on the lap of honor to the sound of Frank Sinatra's classic "New York". His teammates applauded in the background, they had already celebrated Forsberg beforehand.
"They were wonderful years, two cup wins at the end, we play Champions League every year. That was the goal here. Everything I imagined has happened," said Forsberg about his nine years in a Leipzig shirt. And his last home game was once again a great show: first he gave RB the lead shortly after coming on as a substitute, then he set up the next goal. As a result, the Saxon Bundesliga club has climbed to third place in the table for the time being.
