In the last game of the year this Tuesday (18:30/Sky) at Werder Bremen, Emil Forsberg will once again take center stage. Leipzig coach Marco Rose has even held out the prospect of a starting appearance for the Swede in his 325th competitive game in an RB shirt. "If Emil is up for it, then there's no reason why he shouldn't start again."
Bremer, who are 14th in the Bundesliga table after the 2:2 draw in Gladbach, have "stabilized in recent weeks" according to coach Ole Werner. The upward trend is not yet reflected in points. They are five points clear of the relegation places - Werder will most likely spend the winter in the danger zone.
Leipzig want to use the momentum from Forsberg's farewell gala. Even though Lois Openda made little impact against Hoffenheim and Xavi Simons failed to score after his shot inside the post. The two strikers will have to compete with the in-form duo of Marvin Ducksch and Rafael Borré in Bremen. Or Forsberg will once again make the difference.
The statistics clearly speak in RB's favor. In twelve league duels, Leipzig have won nine and drawn one. Bremen have lost their last three home games against the Saxons by 2:9 goals. Werder's last win came in 2019 (2-1).
