Ex-national player Werner not in the squad for RB test match

Former international Timo Werner will not be in the squad for RB Leipzig's first test match. The 29-year-old, who the club is reportedly looking to offload, will not be involved in Saturday's game (3.30pm) against regional league side ZFC Meuselwitz. Transfer candidates André Silva, Eljif Elmas and Kevin Kampl have also been left out, as the Saxons announced. New signings Ezechiel Banzuzi, Max Finkgräfe, Johan Bakayoko and Yan Diomande, on the other hand, have been included for the first time.

Werner, who was most recently loaned out to England, has been linked with a move to the Red Bull branch in New York for weeks. Leipzig, who failed to qualify for international competition for the first time in years, are planning a massive rebuild this summer under new coach Ole Werner. Talent Tidiam Gomis will be missing for the time being. The 18-year-old Frenchman suffered an inner ligament injury and will be out for five to six weeks.
